Convalescence and care packages

So I mentioned that I was recovering from surgery. Here are some images of my convalescence and some fantastic care packages I received…

Burton

Burton was my constant companion the first few days when I lived on the couch!

SD care pkg

Christmas and bonus from Cooky in San Diego! Books, treasures, and home made cookies! Divine!

Snowmen

Snow quintuplets – from San Diego of all places – to stitch and embellish.

Nina's treasures

Nina’s Treasures – this was a treat to myself. Nina Bagley – the soulful, poetic, mixed media and jewelry artist was doing a bit of a de-stash late last year. I purchased a small box of mysterious treasures – that I managed to NOT open until after surgery. I havent created anything yet, but the wheels are turning. Its a fantastic assortment of treasure.

Who doesnt love flowers?

felt pouch

My triple spiral pouch – I felted a thrift store sweater for the first time and stitched up a few pouches from the sleeves. It was great fun to do a little freehand embroidery. My mother taught us when we were little girls. Some skills never get lost! I prefer to have my hands busy if I am watching TV or a movie, and I am not so handy with knitting needles… What do you occupy yourself with as you bask in the glow of the magical electronic picture box?

Share the love…donations and a give away!

I believe in sharing the love, in supporting causes I am committed to, and to helping out where I can. I dont have pockets lined with gold, and often my ‘help’ is a donation of artwork. This past week on Friday I had a chance to donate to two organizations/causes that I support wholeheartedly.

The first is the DCCA – The Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts. It is an amazing exhibit space, and houses many local artists studios. They are committed to supporting the arts and upcoming artists. I have friends who work, and exhibit there. Every year they have a fundraiser auction: “Small Art/Big Auction. Donated works are small in scale; this year the size requirement was 12” square. Want a peek? I decided with the advice of my friend Sara T. to think outside the box…

DCCA necklace

“Siren’s Song” – starfish in mother of pearl with resin, river rock, carved netsuke, pearls, aquamarine, sterling, kyanite.  I think it will definitely get attention and be a great conversation piece. The auction is October 29th, you can se the details here

Then I headed over to Playtime Doggy Daycare. After a few chats with the staff regarding their fundraising efforts – which included home made baked dog treats… I decided to make a necklace, or two. They are going to hold a raffle for a local dog rescue. I wish I could give money to all the dog rescues, and homes to a hundred adorable strays. But we have our hands full with our two rescued dogs:

Oscar

Oscar – (Canaan Dog) aka Cutest dog ever, Noodle, Oscar Moo-Moo (Thats from Playtime!)

Zoey

Zoey (Belgain Malinois) aka Crazy. (Her one and only true nickmane)

So my donation, you ask? I couldn’t decide – so I made two:

dog donations

The first is a vintage stamp advocating humane treatment. I do not know the date, but it was a $.05 value. It is collaged in a copper bezel under resin and paired with citrine and carnelian. The second is hand stamped copper, and enamel on copper. Both are 18″ long on copper chain. If you are interested – you can buy tickets to win, and donate to a worthy cause… just contact Playtime Doggy Daycare!

So in the spirit of giving – let me get to the details of the give away! I am doing a new style of necklace, focusing on words. Your inspiration, your word of power, your mantra. And I want your ideas… I will give away 2 necklaces in this style: (copper ball chain, 18″, 1 gemstone dangle, stamped word in copper.)

dog tag words

What do you have to do? Leave a comment here with your name and your word/short phrase. OR leave a comment on my Facebook “The Art of Jennifer Davies-Reazor” business page. I will pull the winners the morning of Friday the 14th. Check back Friday to see if you are the winner! Why Friday, you ask? Because that is my air date on HGTV’s “That’s Clever“!!! I will select 1 random winner, and one winner whose word I really like. Yup. My contest. My rules. (With FaerieCon coming up I am looking for words/phrases that are particularly magical, fantasy…but that is NOT a requirement.) Excelelnt. See you Friday!

Hibernation…

Forgive me blog readers, for it has been 7 days since my last posting…

I was really getting into the swing of my new schedule. Clearly it wasnt routine yet, though. Last week I had  head cold, and after my latte post I pretty much retreated. Hibernated. Withdrew. Holed up. I was foggy, and lethargic, and didnt have a thing to say…

So the A to Z post for “B” is missing. And I will sneak it in there some time in the near future. Look for the first of the 2 “B” entries tomorrow.

Since I was last here – we have gone from this:

Oscar's tree

to this: Oscar in snow

And I have been loving the time housebound – spending it in the studio. I have many items to list on Etsy tomorrow morning…

Tray of hearts

And thats just a few! My favorite is the far left: dark brown and teal on the ceramic heart, apatite, smokey quartz above. It says “Amor”.

I will be listing necklaces and ceramic components. First time listing the pieces as materials – as opposed to finished pieces.

I look forward to next week. I dont mean to wish the weekend away, but I will be glad to be back in the studio, back to reality. Between my cold and the snow – I have had a chance to retreat, now its time to get out there again…  I leave you with one more snowy image…

Post re-do: Snapshots from Texas

I first attempted this post on the road during vacation. My apologies to anyone who went looking and found the post lacking… pictures, that is. I have some bugs to work out between my iphone and Flickr – to enable posting on the go. So here is my holiday post, better late than never…

I hope you and your all had a fantastic holiday filled with family food and fun. Here are a few snapshots from my Christmas in Austin with my family- Texas style.

Highways trees

These trees – all along the highway. Random Manifestations of holiday cheer. We saw two cars of people spontaneously decorating. So cool!

Wine fueled Trivia

Kahlua and coffee. Trivial pursuit and Star Wars marathon. Chocowine anyone?

So much fun crammed into a few short days! Now it’s time for a nap, or at least that’s what Schatzi thinks!
