The eyes have it: the Art Elements theme reveal

Thank you Laney for such an inspiring theme this month – and World Sight Day on October 12th! As you can see from the photo above – I had a plethora of pretties from which to choose. And yet – it is halloween month – and this happened:

Hard to resist at this time of year. Shades of Pan’s Labyrinth?

So my $3 plastic eyeball – plastic. Hmm. I cannot set it in polymer. I wanted to go with something ornate, maybe a bit Victorian, and a bit Gothic. I used the polymer piece I was imagining – and then after curing it, set the eyeball. The bezel is Apoxie clay. Acrylic paint to bring out the texture… ( Now I think I want to do another with Swellegant and crusty patinas… )

The next 2 pieces are based around very bling-y eye cabs by Megan of Peacock Bead Shop. The first – in turquoise and cobalt was near impossible to photograph. The top cab is mother of pearl. The bottom is a faceted plastic? that shines like a bike reflector in person! Things have been really hectic this month with travel and teaching and shows… so it was a necessary Zen moment to sit and bead on these eyes!

The second piece will be for me! I was playing with different quotes and layers of meaning, thinking on seeing is believing, trust your path, envision your future, manifestation… so the compass was my first choice. I am thinking of hanging the beaded piece off the sterling banner – and stamping it with…? Latin? Welsh? I do like an obscure hidden meaning in a talisman. Or do I repeat the circular motif and dangle the “soul” charm? What, dear reader, would YOU do?

    Oh, I love your eye focal! I could see that on a thick old leather bound book with aged pages and gold tooling and heavy hinges holding the book and its secrets tightly shut! A real piece for the imagination! Your beaded pieces are charming I love the idea of a secret message on the banner!

    The plastic eye is such a cool object! I would have bought it as well and the ornament piece you made with it looks beautiful! (yes, I think weird is beautiful) I agree with Niky, it would also look cool on a book cover or maybe also a small trunk?
    The beaded pieces look lovely and strangely enough, they take the weirdness out of the eyes/eyeballs?

    Omigosh, omigosh, omigosh! That plastic eyeball is phenomenal set in the polymer and apoxie. It is just so perfect as is but with some danglies hanging from it it will be stunning. The blue beaded eye is gorgeous but the green is definitely YOU! I love the round ‘soul’ charm but I am really loving the metal banner. I think something stamped in welsh would be perfect for hanging your beaded talisman from.

    The idea of combining the eye and the compass is really something special. I like the banner personally, but have no idea what you should stamp. Fantastic creations!

    They are all beautiful and so beautifully done, but what you did with that cheap plastic eyeball just knocks my socks off! It is simply fantastic! As I was scrolling down, I never in a million years would have guessed that it could be turned into something so wonderful! Just goes to show that art doesn’t have to be expensive or out of reach; it’s all in the creativity and talent of the artist.

    I have seed bead envy!! this challenge has been full of amazing beaded pieces and yours are no exception. I really love that blue eye and all it’s beading, that is very eye catching but my absolute favourite piece has to be that plastic eye, it is masterful and I love it!!

    So awesome! I would never have guessed that was a plastic costume eyeball in that polymer/epoxy clay piece. Love the finish. The blue beaded focal is gorgeous and I’m sure the green wip will be stunning as well. Not sure which layout I would vote for but I love the compass theme.

    What an awesome collection of eye beads and cabs. Very cool idea for using the plastic eye! I used apoxie clay in my micromosaic, this is a new to me medium that I like very much! I love the Soul dangle but yes, hidden message would be fun too! Looking forward to seeing it done! Oh and I love the green and blue eyed beaded pieces, glad you’re keeping one for you!
